Hi Mary — My first was called ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS, and I think the biggest sense of doing it the right way or the wrong way came from being firmly entrenched in a genre. All of my teachers encouraged a more literary style. For me, crime fiction was right — it was my natural voice. Does that help?

Yes, I think so, thank you. ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS sounds very intriguing! That one clue that gets left behind reminds me of an element from a true crime murder case, except the criminal in that case didn't intend to have anyone find it.

was in a sort of low mood since last night regarding writing and publishing, but this interview really somehow shifted my mindset a bit for the better. i’m never going to give up writing no matter the setback, but it does suck to get stuck in those doubtful moods, so to be unexpectedly pulled out of one by this interview was lovely. thank you for sharing!
