This interview is encouraging and helpful. I’ve completed one novel and queried for over a year and am revising my second. I think I need to finish this one, then take what I’ve learned and re-edit the first. Long process, no guarantees, but in the midst of this I’ve found several wonderful writing communities, written over 50 Substack essays, and gotten short pieces published. It’s a journey!!

Some truly worthwhile notes here! Publishing is a cruel path. So true. And the NYT bestseller list. 😱

Thank you for today's interview, Alyssa! It's always both heartening and refreshing to see that there are wildly different ways towards getting published and making it as an author. The advice to stay true to oneself really struck a chord in this conversation.

Totally agree. So much of publishing is out of your control, so trusting yourself/your process is the only tried and true path forward.

I worked in publishing for six years and find this book to have a lot of problems. I'm sorry to say this , but featuring it made me think less of you.
